Counseling Services

The goal of SCS counseling is to help students become personas íntegras, people who are characterized by fullness of health in all aspects of their lives: academic, spiritual, social, emotional, and physical. In pursuit of this goal, we use a biblically-based, holistic approach to provide students with the tools and support they need to reach their potential.

Elementary Services

The elementary counselor provides ongoing support to students and families.  The counselor meets with students individually, in small groups, and provides guidance lessons within the classroom.  Likewise, the counselor oversees the Second Step social and emotional program in the elementary school.  The counselor guides student and staff in developing the following in students:
  • Stress management
  • Healthy peer and adult interactions
  • Bullying
  • Appropriate touch
  • Goal-setting
  • Regulation of Emotions
  • Reinforces biblically-based character traits
The elementary counselor also holds parent forums and training sessions aimed at assisting families in dealing with current issues.

Secondary Services

SCS is committed to helping each student throughout the college planning process by providing a comprehensive college and career curriculum. Beginning in grade 7, students work with the secondary counselor to set individualized curricular and extra-curricular graduation goals. As students begin their junior and senior years, the secondary counselor helps students assess their abilities, potential, and performance, and endeavors to recommend colleges and universities that will provide an appropriate challenge and supportive environment. SCS graduates enjoy a rich history of admission to competitive colleges in the United States, the Dominican Republic, and around the world.

The secondary counselor assists students and families in the following areas:
  • New parent/student orientation
  • Course selection
  • Student academic records
  • Standardized testing, including MAP, AP, PSAT, and SAT
  • College and career planning
  • Individual and small group counseling
  • Goal setting and character formation

School Psychologist

The school psychologist assists the school counselors in handling matters associated with social and emotional concerns.  These services are provided in a confidential setting and address issues that may be impacting a student's overall well-being.  The school psychologist coordinates with the school principals and counselors to develop plans for addressing issues.  The school psychologist also coordinates psycho-educational testing and assists in making referrals to external agencies of high reputability.
