SCS Athletics is organized on a developmental continuum beginning with the athlete's first introduction to sports and ending with the high-level competition of high school varsity sports.

At the elementary school level, belonging is important and skills are new. At this level, athletes have opportunities to play as much as possible regardless of skill and are encouraged to try multiple sports. The emphasis is on participation, developing skills, and building confidence. At the middle school level, developing skill remains important with an added focus on cultivating teamwork. Athletes will not be cut from middle school teams. Athletes are assured playing time of at least ¼ of a game with the remaining time based upon performance. At the high school level, athletes are maturing physically and mentally and the focus shifts to competition and performance. Team strategy becomes more complex. Teams are chosen through a tryout process. Those with highest levels of skill will begin to represent SCS in the competitive interscholastic arena.
