The LDCS was inaugurated last Friday, October 13, for the third consecutive year with the participation of 70 registered teams and 1,050 athletes.
José Martí started the ceremony giving thanks for attendees and sponsors of the event, followed by the parade of the teams. The blessing of the McDonald's Cup was led by SCS Assistant Head of School, Paul Gibbs, accompanied by the translator Richy Vallette, Chairman of the SCS Board. He was followed by Irka Taveras, who welcomed the gathered crowd, and Major League Baseball player and SCS father, Carlos Gómez, gave motivational words to the athletes. Maria Amelia Antuña, Manager of McDonald's had the inaugural kick of the soccer ball.
Following the inauguration, the first game of the league took effect with the participation of the female high school soccer teams of Insituto Iberia and SCS, 1st and 2nd Places of last year's tournament.
The League will have a longer duration this time, as it will last until May 2018. May the grace of God be upon all our athletes and we hope to have the support of our parents to encourage our children to practice and compete cleanly.
